Those of you who know me have been bored previously with details and photographs of my model railway but things are developing nicely now it has a permanent home.
When I started my attempt at modelling I did some research, read plenty of books and purchased the magazines. This was all very interesting and helpful but I found it rather full of technical detail, specific regions, hand-built brass kit engines and precise scratch-built models of long-forgotten rail yards. I wanted a layout for my ready-built Locomotives which I could just enjoy building and not worry too much about detailed accuracy. I can hear the cringing of the purists and apologise if this upsets them but I am just a beginner.
As for many British enthusiasts the scale that chose me was OO although it took some time to learn the difference between this and HO! Shock, horror, I even mixed them!
Before anyone suggests otherwise I am not paid to advertise but I found the card kits produced by Metcalfe and Superquick relatively cheap and very realistic so used them extensively in my layout. To be honest I think I enjoy the modelling more than running the locos. The influence of these kits has even led me to try my own buildings. ( as you will see )
Well, I intend this to be an introduction and hope with the aid of the photographs and future updates, you may share some of the enjoyment I have experienced so far. I would be pleased to hear from any other ‘beginners’ out there. Please feel free to leave a comment. Malcolm. ( next ‘instalment’ in a few days. )
Here are a few pictures to show the development of my latest board ( I’m building in 2 x 3 feet sections ) I wanted to get away from the flatness so used this lock scene to help.
